Magpie Radar (“we”, “us”) provides a map-based awareness app for community-reported bird activity. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Information we collect

a) Location data

If you allow location access, we use your approximate or precise location to show nearby reports and (if enabled) provide proximity alerts.

You can use parts of the app without location by searching a place instead.

Location is processed to provide the service and is not sold.

b) Reports you submit
When you submit a report, we may collect:

-The reported location (pin)

-Time/date of the sighting

-Species and report type (e.g., swoop / injury)

-Optional comments you enter

c) App usage data
We may collect basic analytics and diagnostics (such as device type, app version, crashes, and feature usage) to improve reliability and performance.

d) Account / subscription information
If you subscribe, Apple/Google processes payments. We receive subscription status (active/inactive) but do not receive your full payment card details.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

-Display reports on the map and calculate distances

-Provide route checking and optional proximity alerts

-Prevent spam/abuse and improve data quality

-Improve app performance, fix bugs, and understand feature usage

-Provide customer support

3. Sharing of information

We may share limited information with:

Service providers that help us operate the app (e.g., hosting, analytics, mapping).

Apple/Google for subscriptions and app distribution.
We do not sell personal information.

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users and the public.

4. Data retention

We retain report and usage data for as long as needed to operate and improve the service, unless we are required to keep it longer by law. You may request deletion of certain data where applicable.

5. Your choices

You can enable/disable location permissions in your device settings.

You can disable notifications at any time.

You can request support or deletion inquiries via email.

6. Children’s privacy

Magpie Radar is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. International users

If you use the app outside Australia, your information may be processed in other jurisdictions where our service providers operate.
